Sometimes, imagination isn't enough. Sometimes, research is needed.
For example, I had Kat in an armor. What kind of armor you ask? Well, I wasn't sure. I knew it had to be light, because she needed to move around fast and silently. So I made up something, described it and gave it to my editor.
Who promptly sent it back with the note, "Umm this kind of armor won't stop arrows like what you're referencing."
Great. So, instead of rewriting that paragraph in Chapter 1, I've been trying to figure out what happens in the 2nd part of Chapter 35 and, playing Fight Night Champions instead.
Today, I tackled the question of what kind of armor best stops arrows. And it's lead to three hours of reading and research into a fascinating subject I knew little of. I love writing. It forces me to understand so many other things.
I think I can now rewrite that paragraph in Chapter 1 now.
At this point: 5-1/2 or 6-1/2 more chapters for 3rd Rewrite and 40 chapters to go in beta rewrite.
I might forgo the beta rewrite due to some upcoming upheavals in my life.
